Understanding private medical options
Straight answers to the most common questions about private medical options, how it compares to PMI, and what it means for your workforce.
Yes. Private Medical Options replaces the insurance layer with directly delivered care. Square Health employs the clinical network and the technology, so employers buy healthcare modules at a fixed per-employee cost instead of underwritten premiums. There are no claims processes and no premium renewals based on last year's usage.
PMO Flex starts at £1 per employee per month, with Levels 1 to 4 priced by module and headcount. Pricing is fixed per employee, so finance can forecast it. Compare that with group PMI, where premiums are underwritten annually.
Yes. Many employers keep PMI for senior grades and use PMO to extend meaningful cover to the rest of the workforce. The two run independently. Some employers may offer both to manage their PMI claims costs.
From day one of the contract. Employees download the app, register, and can typically see a GP the same day. There are no qualifying periods and no exclusions based on prior usage.
Square Health's own network of 5,000+ UK medical specialists: GMC-registered GPs, mental health therapists, physiotherapists, and consultants. The same network delivers services for 40% of the FTSE 100.
